A few months ago Kiind Magazine approached me for a deepening interview about the crisis Timo and I went trough in our relationship two years ago. It became a inspiraring and beautiful conversation with interviewer Nelleke Bos. She was able to form the words into an in-depth and honest article. Exactly as I hoped it would be. In Dutch only. I hope you like it!
I love to wander around in small streets of little villages and old neighborhoods of a city. There are so much surprises to find. From the beauty and richness of old buildings to the neglection of some of them. I can see real art in dilapidation. Peeling and faded paint, old walls, little details, some graffiti or even rubbish. Walk around without judgment and with real openness… then you can enjoy from what really is. Beauty is everywhere ❤️
So, what happened since we are in Portugal?! I can tell: a lot!
Portugal was a direction to go to since we are traveling. We were invited to a lovely place to stay for a longer period. We wanted to put up the tipi there and be part of a community for a while, organize some events: ecstatic dance for example and also a festival and a retreat. The temple of the (h)earth in Aljezur looked like the perfect place for us. But when we arrived and stayed there for a few days the owner came to tell us that for himself he felt a no for us staying there any longer. We had to leave. It came as a shock for us. After traveling for months we were looking forward grounding again on one spot for a while. And now we have to leave again, leave our plans behind and have no idea where to go to.
After the shock we were able to see what the reality was in the now. What we realized was that being there was build up of fantasies and ideas. It gave direction and a feeling of safety during our preparations of leaving everything behind in the Netherlands. But we don’t need that false feeling of safety anymore. We feel safe in ourselves. We learned a lot on the road. We made a deep inner journey and are totally different people then we were before.
So we are on the road again. Grateful for the lessons we learned and the realizations we had. We are traveling further with an openness for what the future will bring us.
In the meantime we enjoyed the visit of my father in Portugal. It was really nice to be together for a while. Last week our girls flied back with him to Holland for a visit to their grandma and friends. This weekend I will fly to NL as well to pick them up. Taking the chance of seeing and hugging some friends as well. I’m looking forward to it 🙏🏻😍
But now I am enjoying my time together with Timo. 10 days without the girls. Quality-time I can tell ❤️
The future is open. Every moment we are creating our new now. And we are doing that with total openness. To be continued….
We went yesterday to Lisboa for a very nice ecstatic dance. We hadn’t danced for months and we really missed it. After two hours of barefoot dancing 💃🏼🕺🏻❤️ and a deep journey into ourselves, we’ve got naturally high. Experienced total bliss 🙏🏻 What a pleasure and joy!!
The best part of living in a van is that you can sleep everywhere, also in the middle of the city like Lisboa! So today, we couldn’t resist exploring more of Lisboa. What a nice place to be… we had the best time! @Alfama, Lisboa, Portugal
A few months ago Kiind magazine approached me for a deepening interview about the crisis Timo and I went trough in our relationship two years ago. It became a inspiraring and beautiful conversation. The redaction was very enthusiastic and wanted an interview with Timo also, for his point of view. You can read his version (Dutch) in this online article. For mine, you will have to go to the shop. It’s on paper only.
We proudly present our youngest member of the family…. Lagun (in Spanish pronounced as Lagoen or Laroen and is Basque for Amigo/friend). He is a wish com true. A little miracle in fur. Such a bright, enthusiastic and funny little guy. We are really happy to have him in our lives. Especially since we have waited a long time for his presence. But we knew he would come at the perfect time. And so it was.
Welcome dear Lagun… we are in love with you 💚 Let’s make beautiful memories together!
The first time Fede came to us we were sitting on the back of our trailer having an intense conversation. He walked up to us, stopt and started chatting in Spanish. We didn’t have any idea what he was saying but that didn’t bother him at all. After some time he made a gesture with his hand that could only mean “follow me”. And so we did. He brought us to his house and proudly showed us his vegetable garden. Witch was a joy to see! We learned the names of al the vegetables in Spanish and after some time he grabbed a knife and started harvesting fresh veggies for us. When he was done we were invited to sit down and with a bottle of bubbles we celebrated our new friendship.
After meeting his wife Marian and daughter Barbara we became regular guests at their house. They treated us with the most delicious food and we had funny and slow conversations true google translate.
As time went by Fede and Marian became a sort of grandparents for our girls and often they went by their house and got treated with ice cream, chocolate and God knows what more (TV!).
Fede not only gave us a place we were welcome, but also he started introducing us to people who became dear to us. Jon living up the street with his two shepherd dogs. Marta an Rubén who have a spiritual center and became like family. Inviting us to many special gatherings were we met many more brothers and sisters. Our girls became friends with their daughter Africa and they even stayed over a couple of nights at their place, giving us some precious time of our own!
Through Fede we became more than just visitors enjoying the beautiful beach and countryside. Through his efforts we were living here with an actual community around us. Exact the thing that we were wishing for when we were imagining our journey.
This man made that vision come true and he enjoyed it so much!
Last Saturday the girls went up to their house in the morning and encountered a rather shocking site. Marian in tears with family members around her trying to comfort her.
A man told the girls in English that Fede was in the sky. They came running back and told us that there was something wrong with Fede. Luckily the man followed the girls and explained what has happened. Fede died that morning in the hospital after an operation on his liver.
We were in shock.
The girls still have a hard time believing he’s gone. In Spain the funeral is so much faster than we are used to in Holland that we couldn’t say goodbye to him. Now whats left are the many good memories we made with him and of course al the lovely people he left behind. Next month there is going to be a big fiesta to celebrate his life. Just the way he would have wanted, loving his food and drinks and the company of friends.
We miss you Fede. Thank you for being in our lives 🙏🏻💚
After reading a bedtime story to the girls Lente said she wouldn’t go to bed yet… she would love to take a walk, because she had to much energy. And we looked outside and saw the beautiful sunset and thought: why not? So we went for a late walk and it was lovely. We had so much fun together. And enjoyed nature. We feel privileged to live in such a wonderful place called earth 🌍
